GOV.UK confirms that documents such as a Power of Attorney can be legalised with an apostille where the document has been appropriately certified by a UK public official such as a notary.
- Official translations – Supporting UK paperwork, including British death or marriage certificates, must be translated into French by a certified translator.
Finalising the Estate
Once your power of attorney is verified. The notaire can complete the main probate deeds without you being present. This includes the Acte de Notoriété (confirming the legal heirs). The Attestation Immobilière (transferring French property), and filing the Déclaration de Succession (the tax return). Modern notaires can even offer video-authenticated electronic signing sessions.
