Typically the types of documents that will need to be legalised include any death certificate or Will not written, created, or issued in France. In addition, if there is no French Will the UK Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration will also need to be legalised. The legalisation process can be bypassed if the person died in France and made a Will with a French Notary and the Notary is known.
In the event that a search for a Will is necessary then certain additional documentation will need to be legalised these include marriage and birth certificates showing the relationship to the deceased. Random speculative searches for the French will registry are not permitted. Beneficiaries must be able to prove the link to the deceased. What is Legalisation and an Apostille.
UK issued documents are not valid for immediate use in France. They must first go through the Legalisation process. This includes translation, notarisation and the apostille. The UK apostille can only be issued on UK documents by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth office and we offer this as a complete service.
